Nathan Donahue stretched out in his bed as he yawned.

Another knock rattled the door.

"Nathan!" His mom shouted through the door, "Carter's on the phone!"

"Uuuhhhh..." Nathan was groggy from his nap as he stumbled out of bed still wearing the clothes he wore to school earlier that day, jeans and a green t-shirt.

The door opened and Nathan's mom handed him the house phone. He placed it to his ear.

"What?"

"Hey"

"What's up man?" Nathan asked without to much enthusiam as he rubed his face and squinted his eyes.

"I'm off work." Carter replied. He was sometimes short with words.

"What time is it?"

"9:12"

"At night?"

"Of course."

Nathan was silent for a while.

Carter broke it finally, "I talked with Sarah while I was working. She said she was cool with hanging out tonight, with it being a Friday and all."

"She said Carrie thought you were hot too. So Carrie's comming too."

"Where are we going?" Nathan asked, he was a little nervous about two females joining their group.

"Where ever. We are going to meet at the park at 9:45 and talk about it more there."

"Yeah sure. I'll see you then."

"Bye," was the last thing Nathan heard Carter say before he hung up.

"MOM!" He screamed. "I'm going out!" As he said this he grabbed his brown hoodie. It was going to be a cold night in Oregon.

The light in the lamp flickered out as James Mason walked by it along the brick path in Rung Park. Something about tonight gave him chills down his back. Of course since the incident, every night on his walk home from work gave him the chills.

Up ahead, he heard giggles comming from girls. James rounded the corner and spotted two sitting on a park bench with a boy. Both the girls were laughing nervously.

As he approached, James reached into his pocket and withdrew a pack of smokes and a lighter. One girl had short brown hair and wore a black sweater and jeans. The other had long blonde hair with a light blue north face jacket and jeans as well. The boy looked to be around 16-17 and wore a black t-shirt and jeans. His brands he wore looked too expensive for someone his age to be wearing.

"Isn't it a little late for you three to be out?" He asked as he lit a cigarette.

The giggling stopped and all three looked at him.

"Nice gloves." The girl with the brown hair said.

"You're not too bad yourself."

The two girls giggled while the boy in black stood up.

Suddenly, another kid appeared to James's right side and walked by silently. Completely ignoring him.

That kid came out of nowhere!

"What's up Sarah?" Carter asked after walking by the guy smoking. Both Sarah and Carrie stood up next to the guy in the black t-shirt.

"Just waiting on you two! This is Ryan. He's new to the school so I invited him to come with us."

"Hey" Carter said to Ryan.

"Hey, how's is going man?" Ryan asked with a smile on his face.

Carter didn't bother with an answer, Nathan was approaching.

"Hey Nathan."

Everyone including the man smoking turned as if unaware of his presence.

"Wassup...who are they?"

"The new guy is Ryan."

"And we don't know who he is." Sarah pointed at the man smoking.

"My name is James." the man said with a cold stare. "And it's past curfew. You kids shouldn't be out here this late."

"**** off." Nathan said as he walked over to join the group.

"What curfew?" Asked Ryan.

Sarah spoke up, "Due to all the missing persons and murders that have happened lately, the police chief ordered a curfew at 10pm for anyone under 18."

"Yeah." James said, "You kids better run home."

"Man get the **** outta here." Nathan said again.

"Just ignore him." Sarah said with a sigh.

"So what's the plan for tonight?" Ryan asked as he stuffed both his hands in his pockets.

"We could go watch a movie." Nathan suggested.

"Not with the curfew." Carter said quietly.

"We could grab some beer...ask Glooves over there to get us some."

"Yeah **** right. I'm only nineteen."

"No ****?"

"Where did you get those scars on your head?" Sarah asked, they had become more noticable as James pulled out another cig and stepped closer to the lamp they all stood under.

James remained quiet and lit up.

"We could go **** around in those old Indian caves." Nathan suggested.

The two girls seemed iffy about it until Ryan added, "That sounds like a great idea!"

"I'm comming with." James said before blowing out a breathe of smoke.

"How do we know you're not the one killing everyone?!" Nathan shouted.

"Let's let him come along. There's five of us and one of him. I'm sure he won't try anything." Sarah said.

"Ryan's bigger than him anyways." where the first words they had heard Carrie say all night as she elbowed Ryan in the side.

The dog growelled with a demonically deep voice. James wondered what the hell he was doing out here on the old road with these kids as the animal slowly crept forward. They were on their way to the caves, walking through an old subdivision when an animal had burst out of the dark woods between the houses. Something about the dog didn't seem right to James. It's eyes looked haunted and its demeanor was one of true terror. It had to have rabies or something. The clouds briefly parted to reveal a half moon. The light cast down upon them revealed a white house to their far right through an overgrown lawn.

"What are we going to do?!" Screamed Sarah as she stepped closer to James.

The dog took another step forward and then lunged.

James said calmly to Sarah "Don't worry, there is only one and 6 of us, we can handle it"

After this James moved to the side as he saw Ryan move in to try a frontal attack, he would wait for Ryan to distract it then make his move to kill the rabid beast.

((Game Plan

1. comfort Sarah so she does not panic
2. circle the dog as Ryan distracts it
3. try to take it out while it is distracted
4. if 2 and 3 fail, attack it head on with Ryan))

((I've handled dogs IRL before, and I've got the scars to show for it. My speed may be slow, but I have amazing adrenaline bursts. Once, my dog lunged for my throat, I whipped around, grabbed him by the side of his neck and threw him to the ground...))

   Game Plan:

1| Push Ryan out of the way. {speed 3}
 ^^If above fails.^^ (Alt.) Try to get everyone else to safety. {intelligence 10}
2| Wait for the dog to strike and time a counter attack. {speed 3/intelligence10
3| Do what I explained in my above quip. (speed 3/intelligence 10/strength 1}

*Hopefully you'll allow my adrenaline burst, elsewise I am truly boned.*

"AAAAHHH!!!" Ryan screamed in pain as the dog clamped its jaws around the ankle of the foot he tried to kick it with. He felt a hand brush his arm as Carter tried to pull him away from the dog but failed.

Both the girls began screaming as the older guy tried calming them down.

Nathan and Carter eached grabbed a girl by the arm.

"We have to get to that house!" Nathan screamed as he began to drag the paralyzed Carrie. The dog groweled as it tried to pull Ryan off balance.

Carter pushed Sarah who complied more easily towards the white house.

Ryan slammed his foot to the asphalt despite the teeth that tore into his leg through his jeans. James, now behind the beast, grabbed its tail and pulled. The dog refused to release its grasp on Ryan's right ankle and only seemed to increase its ferocousness. Ryan raised his left foot high in the air and brought his heel down forcefully on the beast's neck. There was a sickening crunch and the animal went limp.

"Well that's over..." James said as he released the tail. The dog looked much smaller now as its tounge rolled lifeless out of its mouth. Only a dirty mutt.

Blood drenched Ryan's sock as he bent down and lifted his jean leg up to inspect the damage.

A scream came from Carrie. Ryan ignored his wound for now and quickly snapped his attention towards the two girls who were being escorted by Nathan and Carter.

"Someone's in there!" She shouted as she pointed a finger at a second story window.

James briefly glanced at the dead mutt, then at Ryan(he'd live), then to Carrie, and finally at the house. All the windows were black and James didn't know who the hell Carrie was seeing. The house sat on a slight incline with an overgrown lawn inbetween itself and the group on the road. The house was painted white and was three stories tall. A carport that was connected to the house rested to the left, the drive way was **** and covered in weeds. An old, probably condemned porch led to a double door that appeared to be the entrance. Above it was a balcony that covered half of the second floor. Carrie was pointing at a window that was not over part of the balcony.

"I don't see anyone." James said as Ryan hobbled next to him as they returned to the group.

"Did you have to kill it?!" Sarah asked, the mystery figure in the house forgotten when she saw the crumpled beast in the road.

"I..." Ryan began.

James quickly cut him off. "Yes. It would have ripped his leg off if we gave it the chance."

Sarah seemed to accept this answer and looked down at Ryan's leg.

"Oh my God! You're bleeding!" she shrieked.

"No problem..." James said as he pulled his cell phone out of his pocket.

"Wait!" Ryan reached as James stepped back to avoid his grasp. "If you call for help they'll know we broke the curfew! I'll be fine."

"Yeah...you're right." James said as he removed the phone from his ear and put it back in his pocket. What he didn't let them know was he had already dialed 911 but the call wouldn't go through. Probably just a bad signal.

James reached into his pocket and withdrew his pack and the lighter. Only four left. He took one out and stuck it in between his lips. The lighter sparked as he struck it but refused to make a flame. He grumbled to himself as he tried repeatedly with no success. Out of fuel.

Carter spoke up, "Maybe we can get you some help in the house."

"But...Carrie saw someone in there!" Sarah said with distress in her voice.

"Yeah. They could be of some assistance right now." Carter countered. Carrie merrily wimpered and began to cry. Whoever she thought she saw must have shook her badly.

"Not if that was their dog we just stomped." Nathan said quietly.

II.  Look for a weapon while making sure everyone ELSE is alright.

Ryan hobbled over to Carrie. Sarah hugged her while Ryan placed his hand on her arm. She only withdrew and buried her face into Sarah's neck.

"Don't be scared, you have a bunch of guys here to protect you." Carrie seemed oblivious to the world around her.

"Well...Is everyone alright?" Ryan asked as he looked over the group.

"We'll be fine," Sarah said, "But we should probably call this thing off and go home."

"Hey," Ryan shifted his weight to his good ankle. "I live only about fifteen minutes walk from here, and its in a mansion! All of you can crash there if you don't want to walk home by yourselves."

"No thanks." Replied James. "I'll walk you guys there but I'm not going to have a sleep over with a bunch of highschoolers."

"Suit yourself." Sarah said with a hint of attitude. "We'll take you up on that offer, at least until Carrie calms down anyway."

"Guys..." Nathan said with a hiss. Carter returned from the edge of the woods and softely whispered into Nathan's ear.

"The whole forest is crawling with animals." Nathan whispered just loud enough for everyone to hear. He stuck close to the two girls while his eyes scanned the blackness of the woods.

Suddenly a bark and a hiss broke the silence. Dried leaves on the forest floor crumpled loudly as the two animals fought each other. There was a yelp and then silence.

Everyone stood stalk still as a white figured animal emerged slowly from the trees. The moonlight reflected off it's muzzle. Blood. It slowly limped to the dead dog in the middle of the road and sniffed the carcass. Slowly it sat on its haunches and tilted its head back. A single, drawn out howel was soon accompanied by more than the six members of the group could count.

"They're too close!" Sarah hissed. The howels stopped suddenly. More figures, animals of all kinds emerged from the woods as leaves and twigs broke beneath their paws. "We can't fight them all!"
