The forum will be undergoing maintenance as things progress forward. SMF2 is a little buggy on our forum, and I will be working to iron out some of those bugs, and to restore the forum to a similar and familiar home for us to the one that we used to have.

Taking cue from another member, all crimson-colored text is non-story information. This is a story I've been stewing over for about 2.5-2 years, and I've been lacking motivation/inspiration to continue it. SO, I thought I'd post it here and let you all comment on it. So, here goes!

--------------------------

Glossary:

Tale of Two Species

Durren-mar vs. Durren-mak
-Wolf-like humanoids with wolf heads
-Hyper-advanced: Guns, Airships and Mecha etc.

Continent of Alterra - Continent of Sybar

Led by Lord Fenrir - Ysengren

Former allies who worshipped the Seraphs.

Seraphs: Guardian Spirits/gods (Demons/transcendant race) who killed the true "gods"
Seraph Mak't'Ethal bestows a great power upon Ysengren (Who wished for it to protect and save his people), driving him mad.

War breaks out between the races, lasting 330 years.

A great Final Battle takes place on the Great Bridge which spans the oceans/chasms seperating the two continents.

Fenrir overpowers Ysengren and drives the Seraph's "Blessing" from his soul.

The Seraphs punish the Durren, for supposedly "stealing" their power. They strip the Durren of technology, and destroying the Great Bridge.

As further punishment, the Durren-mar were made into wolves, and the Durren-mak into humans.

The future wolf leader Sygbyrn knows of the Seraph's treachery.

Human leader Marius wages war on the wolves, due to the fact that warfare invariably causes technology to develop faster. Whenever humanity's technological growth plateus, the Seraphs bring devastation upon them.

Ika (Fem) is a pup, whose mother dies in a bombing run while evacuating wounded soldiers from a triage center. She is cared for and raised by Nara. Ika is the last living descendent of Fenrir.

Lineage details:

Fems get mother's name (First 3 letters + rea)

I.e. Mother: Nara
Daughter: Seyn-Narrea

Males get Father's names (First 3 letters + ris)
I.e. Father Fenrir
Son: Lonar-Fenris

Plot Points;

Ika's mother leaves Ika to Karkarim (Nara's Lifemate) to be cared for. Ika's mom works in a field hospital, and has knowledge of an imcoming Human bombing run. She refuses to leave until all patients are moved to a safe location; she is reported as a casualty of the attack.

Daigemnon and Gajeron: Two traitorous Wolves who defected to the Humans. They are twins and are actually double agents. Gajeron is eventually confronted by an enraged Ika. He attempts to restrain her, unaware of Daigemnon's plans to involve her. During the struggle she tears out Gajeron's throat with a savage bite. Daigemnon returns, too late, and fiils in Ika while mourning the loss of his brother,

Brecchialorin, leader of the Pan-Gartian Gap Alliance Forces, seeks to unify the two warring races. She secretly holds communes at the conspiratorily built Tans-Gartian Bridge; which links the Human settlement Ankar to the Wolf Lay-Camp Meritus-len. This is huge center for spies, trafficking rings and intelligence transfer,

The Gigalith is an ancient relic of the Durren-mar. It is a massive warmech, wielding incredible firepower, as well as immense physical strength.

The Elder Gods of High Guard were overrun by the Skybourne Plague.

The Skybourne were an insectoid race of incompariably immense technological prowess.

They were later renamed Seraphs.

The Triad (Elder Gods)
-Nexus - God of time
-Anengo - God of the elements
-Shemlock - God of the powers of life and death

The Legend:

At the center of our world, deep within the core of Etherne, lies the Great Machine. This is the heart of

all things, known and unknown. It is written that the Gods descended from their perch upon Highgard,

into the Great Machine, and it is here that they manipulate the very fabric of reality. The Gods more easily heard

our prayers from within its confines, and were always swift in answering them. These periods of

time were known as Tranquil Passings, and were long lived and prosperous for all Durren. Alas, the

time would come that they need return to High Gard, to once again oversee all within their domain.

These times were referred to as the Watchings, and allowed us as a species to develop our own

paths, and stake out our own cultures and civilizations. We learned to take care of ourselves, and were

never heavily dependant on the Gods.

After many decades, the Natural Cycle was interrupted, and the Tranquil Passings never came. Our

prayers went unanswered, and turmoil wracked our civilizations. Two great leaders arose to power, to

lead the scattered Durren tribes onward. On the western continent, Fenrir declared himself Lord and

united the people under the banner of the Alterran Consortium. He then ushered in a golden age of

technology and unity. On the eastern continent, Ysenar formed the Legions of Sybar, a proud hardy

people, who valued individual effort and equality of life. The people worked together, as one, to

survive in the rougher landscape. [More coming]

Durren- Pt. 1: Chapter 1: The Assassin Vanguard

[Shen Ald-ris, son of Aldronis Far-ris: Loki-Class Assassin of the Alterran Nightshyr Assassin organisation (A.N.A.). Typically detailed on special High-Priority missions, usually behind enemy lines. Most, if not all, are heavily classified)]

Shen creapt deliberately along the frosted tree-line, his prey's scent fiercely strong in the crisp mountain air. Saliva drizzled along the length of his maw in blood-thirsty anticipation of the hunt. The time was nearly upon him, he could hear their voices on the wind's chill breath. Closer... just a little longer and the fruits of his patience would be realized.

The snow crunched under the rugged combat boot of a Human soldier, whose black rifle, gripped tightly in his arms, clicked and clacked with each step. Even through his heavily layered winter gear the frost bit hard, pinkening his flesh. A bush off to his right shuffles slightly, and out fear he lets lose an extended burst of automatic fire in its direction.

"Cool it Private!" Came the reply of a large man. Emblazoned with all of the tidings of a Captain, he barks out orders, "Conserve your ammunition! We're gonna need plenty for when we actually face the enemy! Jackass!"

"S-s-s Sir! Yessir, sorry sir!" The private hastily salutes his ranking officer. Acutely aware of his target's momentary lapse in awareness, Shen takes this moment to strike. A crimson stain, backdropped by stark white. The poor soldier gurgled pitifully, a large chunk of his throat now gone, with blood fountaining from his torn artery. The two remaining men of the small squad paled wth fear, they were green recruits, fresh meat.

"F-****!" Stammered the Captain, "the **** are you waiting for men?" Shouldering his weapon and flicking off the safety, he orders his men to fire, "Shoot! Kill the damn Wolf!" Hundreds of shots tore through the air, shredding the once prisitine landscape like so many scraps of paper. Shen however, is already long gone, as any skilled assasin should be. His tracks, obliterated by the hail of fire, left no trace of his having been there at all. His special mission had been accomplished.
