Cleaning

The forum will be undergoing maintenance as things progress forward. SMF2 is a little buggy on our forum, and I will be working to iron out some of those bugs, and to restore the forum to a similar and familiar home for us to the one that we used to have.

Report Date: August 4, 2012
Time: 18.00
Location: mid-Atlantic Ocean

Report:

Yesterday’s events, while dangerous, were not much to report about, but I have decided that from now on, including this report, I will begin attaching my journal entries, and because of this, I will write them more like a transcription of the day’s events, so as to not confuse whoever at HQ reads these reports in the future.

Continuing with the train of thought from yesterday… After we began studying S16, the virus spread rapidly outside our containment area, yet our samples were intact. We realized, then, that this must be our extinction event, and quickly implemented our plan.

We were soon on a boat, heading to the British Isles to retrieve two other Head Order members, James Mason and Viktor Korzun. And that is where we are now. I can honestly say that I expect a large turn of events, and ones not in our favor, in the near future, as, thus far, this trip has been without mishap.

Journal Entry:

After I submitted my first report, I got up from my desk, and, as I said, retrieved my gear, and Legatus Mikaiel’s rifle from his room. The shouting I began hearing as soon as I left my dorm gave me the feeling we would need it, especially because I did not recognize the voices, and they held tints of anger.

I can’t remember exactly what was being said, but it sounded like the strangers were pirates, and they were trying to board us, and get us to give up our supplies. I recall swearing under my breath as I crept up the stairs, and I saw Mikaiel take a small, sly glance backwards at me. I gave him a smile in return, and propped his rifle up behind him, on the stairs.

I quickly retreated around the stair well, and headed towards the other entrance to the below decks, so I could flank them if they decided to try and jump on board. Just as I got to the top of the stairwell, and poked my head over the top, I spotted Mikaiel’s hand darting behind him to grab his rifle.

I immediately popped up my cover and put two rounds from my handgun in the nearest pirate, before ducking back down. I heard several more cracks coming from two weapons, one an M4, and the other a SPAS-12. Mikaiel and James. Three bodies thudded to the decks of both ships. One on ours, and two on theirs.

What I saw when I stepped out of the stairwell would have had most men puking in disgust and horror, much less any women. There was blood and entrails everywhere, and the man who had fell on our boat looked to be in shock, trying to hold his guts in with one hand, and reach for his weapon using the other.

I pulled my blade up so he could see it slowly, and deliberately, to attract his attention as I strode towards him. I grabbed the shock of unruly hair coming off of his filthy skull, and yanked his face up to look at mine.

“Take this knowledge with you into your next incarnation; If you see the black banner with the crimson dragon… Run.” My eyes next left his, and I could see his fear building. I remember listening to a song before the outbreak… ‘Face of Death’, I believe it was called. It was right.

‘The best part of killing someone is the look on their face. Oh, it’s that look. Not when you threaten them. Not when you hurt them. Not even when they see the knife. It’s when they feel the knife go in.’

The face I stared into while I plunged my dagger into his heart could only be described as a serene mixture of horror, pain, and longing. It made me blush with arousal.

Shaking my head lightly, I flipped him over the railing of the boat with my foot, and suddenly became aware that I was only wearing a pair of panties and a ragged t-shirt. I probably would have been rather embarrassed if the two people on the main deck had been any other men. I’m pretty sure James is asexual, and Mikaiel… He raised me, so he looks at me more like a daughter than anything.

Mikaiel just chuckled at me, and jerked his head towards the other boat after he met James’ gaze. My Brother nodded and leaned over the railing leading to the quarters downstairs.

“Come on, you lazy ****! I know that gunfire woke you up. We have a boat to raid!”

Viktor’s thick Russian accent came floating back up. “Yeah, yeah. I was getting my boots on, you bloody ****!” The fact he’d spent several months in London before we picked him up became readily apparent with that sentence.

I smiled lightly, and walked back down stairs to get a pair of pants and my boots on. I heard Viktor and Mikaiel slinging insults back and forth, and giggled a little at the sound. They’d never met before two weeks ago, and they’ve already slipped into the same routine I held with both of them.

When I got back up to the main deck, the boarding plank was already set, and the boats were tied together. I grinned heavily, and walked over to help them.

“Oi, little lady!” My Russian Brother yelled at me. I snapped around to looked at him, and barely managed to catch the hand grenade he’d tossed at me. When he saw the look on my face, he busted out into laughter.

“I thought you’d like it. I know how you like yer explosives and all.” I nodded, and stuffed it into the side of my cargo pants, walking across the deck to go below, and look through their stores, but something felt wrong to me.

I shook my head, again, trying to drive out the feeling. I started moving across the storage room, rifling through everything. It was mostly clothes and useless junk. Something creaked behind me, and I spun around, handgun already drawn and pointed at the center of my vision.

I thought I heard labored breathing, so I moved slowly around the side of where I perceived it was coming from. Nothing was there. I nodded, assuring myself that the was just that, and went to holster my handgun. A few heavy footsteps moving in quick succession, and my gun was already back out of its holster, and on its way up towards the approaching threat.

Before I could get off a round, he slapped the weapon out of my hand, and tackled me. My shoulder impacted first with a resounding crack. I remember swearing loudly at the pain, but I quickly blocked it out. The man raised up and drew back his right hand, straddling me. I saw instantly that he had some sort of sharp object in his hand. I thought it was a knife, so I threw my arm up to catch his arm, but the blow never came.

He gave me the most insane grin I’ve ever seen in my relatively short life, and plunged the object into his neck repeatedly. The blood splashed all over me, and I smelled a tinge sulfur just below the coppery tone of the liquid. I nearly panicked, and threw him to the side, and against the wall. Viktor came running down shortly thereafter, and one look at me had his eyes widening.

“It’s not mine.” I managed to choke out. None of the blood hit my face, and I wasn’t wounded, save my shoulder. I breathed a sigh of relief. No infection. “Just missed a guy.”

I bent down to retrieve my handgun and noticed to small holes in his chest. It was the man I’d shot. No wonder I didn’t hear his body hit the deck.

“Go on. I have to change shirts.” Viktor nodded, and went back upstairs. I could hear them talking while I rifled through the clothes until I found a small black shirt that looked like it’d fit me. I stopped, and sat down, leaning up against the wall of the storage room.

“Too close. Too damned closed.” I muttered to myself, shaking badly. “I can’t let that happen again…”

After a few minutes, I went back up stairs, and tossed the bloodied shirt over the side of the boat. Mikaiel looked at me, and his face grew pale. He walked back over to our boat, and tossed a pack of cigarettes over to me. I was too absorbed in my thoughts by the time he came out, but James caught them for me, and handed me a lit cancer stick.

I took it gratefully. The rest of the evening went by relatively smoothly, but Gladius Vadam is worried about me. I can’t say I’m not worried about myself either.

I took a short nap, and joined the others for breakfast, after inspecting myself for a good fifteen minutes to make sure I wasn’t showing any symptoms, such as the rash, or the fever. I wasn’t.

That was too close. Far, far too close.
