Ryan hobbled over to Carrie. Sarah hugged her while Ryan placed his hand on her arm. She only withdrew and buried her face into Sarah's neck.
"Don't be scared, you have a bunch of guys here to protect you." Carrie seemed oblivious to the world around her.
"Well...Is everyone alright?" Ryan asked as he looked over the group.
"We'll be fine," Sarah said, "But we should probably call this thing off and go home."
"Hey," Ryan shifted his weight to his good ankle. "I live only about fifteen minutes walk from here, and its in a mansion! All of you can crash there if you don't want to walk home by yourselves."
"No thanks." Replied James. "I'll walk you guys there but I'm not going to have a sleep over with a bunch of highschoolers."
"Suit yourself." Sarah said with a hint of attitude. "We'll take you up on that offer, at least until Carrie calms down anyway."
"Guys..." Nathan said with a hiss. Carter returned from the edge of the woods and softely whispered into Nathan's ear.
"The whole forest is crawling with animals." Nathan whispered just loud enough for everyone to hear. He stuck close to the two girls while his eyes scanned the blackness of the woods.
Suddenly a bark and a hiss broke the silence. Dried leaves on the forest floor crumpled loudly as the two animals fought each other. There was a yelp and then silence.
Everyone stood stalk still as a white figured animal emerged slowly from the trees. The moonlight reflected off it's muzzle. Blood. It slowly limped to the dead dog in the middle of the road and sniffed the carcass. Slowly it sat on its haunches and tilted its head back. A single, drawn out howel was soon accompanied by more than the six members of the group could count.
"They're too close!" Sarah hissed. The howels stopped suddenly. More figures, animals of all kinds emerged from the woods as leaves and twigs broke beneath their paws. "We can't fight them all!"
