You manage to hold them off just long enough to survive the battle and push them back, for now, but the war isn't over, and you've drained your coffers of most of your gold recruiting the mercenaries, and now they, too, are stricken with plague, putting an even further strain on what little food and medicine you have. As far as my navy I would have half of them recruit mercenaries from other regions and the other half ferry us medical supplies. and in the defense of my city I would melt down unneeded metal to improve or repair my weapons. For blackrain: Your country is now a dominating power, but country A (from before) gets greedy. They invade country B which is about to be annexed into your country, also according to rumors the superior force from before may be gathering forces up for another invasion, making a staging area in a nautral country, which we will call Country C. For reference, countries A & B are along your northern border, Country C is along your eastern border, and the superior force has a border to your south. What do you do? For Tratpan, the superior force invades country B, and your forces there are bogged down fighting. they bomb your forces in the south and inflict heavy casualities before invading over your border there. Country A being assisted by the superior force invades from country C (read blackrain's scenario) from the east, bypassing your defenses in the north. the enmy is already within your capital in a few hours and control already 55% of your country within a few hours. You have just received word of this invasion now due to communication problems and must make a counterattack or defend what you have left, or something else. in your remaining territory you thankfully have a majority of our military bases with reserves in them, waiting to be deployed. The army that was already fight the enemy is gone - most killed or captured. The only resistance keeping the enemy at bay now is civilian militia and law authorities. what do you do?  Even though my country and my neighbour have made a stronger enemy, the invaders didn’t take into account the political warfare against invaders. My country will have casualties and loose territories, in time my country should gain support from nations that opposes these countries intent on conquests of other nations. In many wars, the long term outcome is that the invaders lose. •World War I: Russia invading across Europe •World War II: Germany invading across Europe •Vietnam has fought of many invaders for years, surprisingly against superior nations My country and country B is fighting for the right reason, that reason is to protect our nation against invaders. I think we might be going towards WW III.  Edit: Forgot to mention that the Argentina invasion of the Falkland Islands was a fail. For BlackRain: Not only does your strategy using the resources of your own country work and decminate the enemy, but your peacful intervention in the war inspries some of the smaller nations to become a part of your nation, you're now a dominating power in the region and force the superior power in the region out completely. For Tratpan: The the superior force that is invading the region takes notice of your intervention in the war between country A & B and makes an alliance with A. the superior force aids country A with superior resources and soldiers. the combined strength between country B and the commited forces of you and your allies are barely able to hold them off. a bitter standoff begins in country B. Sorry BlackRain, I don’t have a genuine answer to your scenario because I don’t think Athens is worth saving, even at this present time.  Contrary to BlackRain’s initial peaceful solution, I would prefer to help country B to fight against country A for 3 reasons. My first reason: Because the counter attack from country B is enough to demonstrate that country B could win battles even though they didn’t start off the fight. Country B’s experience in counterattacking a invasion might be imperative to my country’s situation. My second reason: Throughout history, war over regions/land doesn’t get much support, whereas fighting for the people can get a lot of support. If land is obtain during the time of conflict, the new territories can be used as currency for peace or deterrents against future wars. My third reason: I chosen country B because the situation reminded me of the Falkland Islands 1983: Country A= Argentina vs. country B= Britain. Death toll: 649 Argentine, 255 British. If they stop acting like a child and learn to accept their lost, a possible negotiation for a treaty to lease the territory could happen. |
